I haven't made videos in a while (other than classroom videos), but in 2006 I started playing with video production. Late to the game, I just noticed youtube that year, and two videos struck me particularly hard: "Black Parade" (My Chemical Romance) and "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (Bonnie Tyler). Watching these was like seeing my first modern dance performance, or my first Cirque du Soleil show. I realized that there are ways to express what's in one's head, and I started making video clips, mixing them, writing music and posting finished videos to YouTube. Some of these were pure sillyness, with no meaning other than wanting to have fun and laugh. Others explored things I was thinking about/struggling with, and turning these internal thoughts and feelings into something outside of myself was a wonderful, freeing experience.
