Post-Industrial Rubber Tunic
I bought this sheet rubber 10 years ago to make clothing, but it was really smelly, so it's been sitting in storage ever since. I took it out, and the intense smell is gone. It's wonderful material to work with. I cut it into different shapes, connected them with jack chain, and kept draping it and adjusting it to my body. This was my first experiment with zip ties as ornamentation, and I liked the effect.
The piece is really heavy, and the chain will tear the rubber pretty easily, so it's a bit tricky to wear. The neck can be super pokey, but I'm still experimenting with what look I want: I'm leaning towards something more mask-like.
I bought a blow up mannequinne ("Doug") to help with designing and building this piece, but it got too heavy for him, which led me to upgrade to a real sewing form.
